What with Gay Pride weekend just a few days past, we've had no time to put together something of substance for you viewing pleasure. Don't fret though, we won't let that stop us from posting something; and something it is!
This is probably the worst video we've ever put up here at the OccasionalFag. These are sounds and images from our recent trip to Six Flags New England - one of the better Six Flags Parks. The oft repeated and incredibly annoying theme music is from a travel show for "the Gays" that must have been made in hell - gay hell. It all adds up to a bitter and biting time to be had by all. If only we really had more fags. Six Flags is only made palletable on Gay Days. Again, more fags, more fun...
Trojan Condoms hired attractive young men to peddle bicycles/pedicabs and/or segways to promote their product at the NYC 2009 Annual Gay pride Parade. This is a charming and brief interview with one of those dashing young "condom peddlers".
A pregnant lesbian wants to marry her girlfriend before her child is born. That would make the child "legitimate" in the view of the law & probably/possibly grant parental rights to the mother's legal spouse. Why are people so afraid of creating families? You tell me!

Trans people & their supporters will be in the first contingent of NYC's Gay Pride Parade on Sunday, 6/28/2009. Gathering on 56th St. between 5th Ave & Madison, "The Sons & Daughters of Sylvia Rivera" will celebrate the "mother" of the transgender liberation movement - Sylvia Rivera. Vanessa Edwards is urging others to arrive early since they step off at 11:00 am. Trans people may also want to visit 'Sylvia Rivera Way" at the corner of Hudson &* Christopher Streets where the parade actually ends, To reach that corner during the parade itself, it will be necessary to go down 10th Street to Hudson & then south to Christopher because of the huge crowds along Christopher Street.
Networking is important to all professional people. Hugh Hysell, Paul Zahn & Next Magazine sponsored a "Pride Edition" of their regular networking socials, "The Men's Event" at Planet Hollywood in NYC's Times Square on Thursday night 6/25/2009. The stars of several Broadway Shows were mingling with the guests. I went with my video camera & asked numerous people if I could "interview them for YouTube". These were the interesting and amusing interviews I obtained.

At Washington, D.C.'s 2009 Gay Pride Street Fair I saw thousands of fleeting images & filmed hours of video. This is a collection of those precious little memories/events that gave that day its special ambience. Club performer "Oh My Josh" was one of the musical stars appearing on the main stage at Washington D.C.'s "Capital Pride Street Fair" 6/14/09. He explained his "awesome" attire to Randy Wicker later - behind the stage itself & in front of the U.S. Capitol building. He explains where he got each item he was wearing & shares tips about where to get white pants at bargain prices while also plugging other items he sells on his web-site. It's a fun exploration of awesome male fashion apparel. White Pants Forever !

She is Executive Director of this non-profit group which helps trans people throughout the world in coming to terms with their multi-faceted gender identities. This discussion gets "beyond the male/female gay/straight stuff" and encourages people to "play" with gender--just watch out for the "Gender Patrol" which will try to imprison you in tiny rigid mental box. This is the footage of the Capital Pride Parade which is included as the first part of a 28-minute documentary on the Capital Pride 2009 weekend. I've put up footage of Dupont Circle "nightlife" previously. I'll put up the Street Fair segment next & footage from the Smithsonian After Party some time later. I also have numerous interviews with vendors and activists at the air which will be added at the rate on one a day, my schedule & energy permitting.

A talented street performer, KellyBoy24, used D.C's Gay Pride Fair as an opportunity to perform & "make money for the rent". A self-taught musician, he obviously has real musical gifts. Brought up in Nevada, he constantly heard traditional Irish songs. This is a celebration of Gay Pride, street music & traditional Irish music. Prepare yourself for a real treat..

Here in New York, LGBTI Pride comes early to the city in the Borough of Queens.
The first Sunday in the month of Pride (June) is always Queen's Pride in Jackson Heights, Queens.
Queens love LGBTI Pride in Queens, and flock to it by taking the 7 Train (the Queens express) to be with other Queens in Queens.
Julia Nixon gave this remarkable performance of her "own song" on the Southwest Airlines Stage (a small little-noticed stage in the middle of the Gay Pride Festival) at the Capital Gay Pride Festival which filled the avenue leading to the Capitol building itself in Washington, D.C. I just happened to catch it. Out of six hours of video I shot in three long days at Capital Pride this past weekend, this footage I'm staying up late into the night to post. Surely, she is a "super star" of tomorrow ! This song is 'universal' in its message and perfect for 'today' ! Happy Gay. Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Straight, Black, White, Asian, etc. PRIDE ! Let's welcome Julia Nixon to the stardom she so richly deserves ! Happy Pride to All People!

Remarkably Mark #167: Quick Bites Hawaii I was in Hawaii last week for the "So Much More Hawaii", tour, sponsired by the Hawaii Tourism folks and Cilantro Media. These a few quick videos shot on my handheld camera. This first video is from our arrival and the reception held at the Sheraton Waikiki's Rum Fire outdoor terrace. See THIS POST by my new friend Melissa Chang, host of the Urban Mix Plate blog, for photos and description of the reception. Melissa is one of the local Hawaii bloggers who showed me the local food scene and introduced me to many of her chef friends. I include a short musical clip from MAKANA, a specialist in the unique Hawaiian "Slack Key" guitar style, who performed for us. There's also a short bit from our first morning in Kauai, where I visit the herb garden of the Grand Hyatt Kauai. At a Cinevegas screening of the recut version of the 1982 Hal Ashby film "Lookin' To Get Out" on June 14, actor Jon Voight related a never-before-heard tale of a harrowing incident in which one of Siegfried & Roy's tigers tackled an elderly woman and had to be talked down by a member of the film crew.
In the movie, Voight and Burt Young play pals and gamblers who come to Vegas to try to make back money Voight's character lost in a poker game. The film was made largely at the old MGM Grand (now Bally's) and Ann-Margret plays a woman from Voight's past. The characters played by Voight, Young and Ann-Margret, attend a show in what is probably the Jubilee! Theater and Siegfried & Roy are among the acts shown.
According to Voight, Young was acting in the shot as though the tiger had startled him running about on the stage with Roy. Young was wearing sunglasses, and Voight surmised that the combination of Young's fake startling and the reflection of the lighting on the glasses caused the tiger to get scared and "he ran off the stage and on to a table."

Art celebrating 40 years of LGBT activism is on exhibit (& for sale) at 225 Gallery, 225 W. 14th St., in NYC. The show opened 6/11/09. Here are a short collection of clips & an interview with the curator on opening night. More coverage featuring individual artists talking about their work will come later. This is just to alert those coming to NYC in June that this art show, 225 West. 14th St. (between 7th & 8th Ave) is certainly not to be missed.
